ELI5: What's the difference between a 'blank' and a live round?
Main Post:
Obviously one is shoot to kill, but I mean overall including the mechanics, the intent and the effectiveness.
Top Comment: A Blank round is just the shell casing with a small amount of gunpowder to give the effect of an actual bullet being fired. There is no round for the gunpowder to propel forward, thus it being a blank round. Firing blanks is not deadly in the sense that if you fired a blank at someone from 30 yards away, it wouldn't hurt them. On the other hand, if you were to fire it at point blank range, you would seriously injure or kill someone. The force of the escaping gases from the barrel is enough to do damage on it's own without a round. Both a live and blank are just as deadly at close ranges. The intent of the blank is just for show or to simulate the weapon being action-ed through the firing process. A live round, has the casing, gun powder, as well as the round so that when the primer ignites the gunpowder, the round is propelled forward through the barrel of the weapon.
Daily Discussion 114: Live Ammo

Is Live Ammo underrated? Is being immune to Tazies, most forms of Blob, and Spent highly valuable? Does the extra roll damage rarely matter? Discuss!
- Tierless Passive
- Introduced in 1.0
- Provides contact damage immunity and quintuples dodge roll damage
I'm A Bullet Too!
Who needs bullets when you ARE a bullet? Provides immunity to contact damage, and rolling into enemies deals increased damage.
Starting items don't get Known Synergies
Top Comment:
Since AG&D, Armor of Thorns is now a strictly better version of Live Ammo. It gives a higher roll-damage multiplier (7x vs 5x), synergies, and grants the contact damage immunity that was previously exclusive to Live Ammo. Blast Helmet is nearly as good (3x vs 5x), but with the added benefit of some explosion protection.
Point is, you no longer have to be Bullet to "safely" try roll damage meta. But if you are him and get the other 2 roll damage items, you can do insane damage. Like 6x more damage than Compressed Air Tank sharks, per roll.
Also if I play as Bullet too long I get sloppy about walking into enemies. When I was doing the extra pasts I played Bullet exclusively for several days, then switched immediately to Robot. It was not forgiving...
Live ammunition counter?
Main Post:
Hi there. Is it possible to get the amount of bullets left in a turret? I'm looking for a way to display how many bullets are left in my interior turrets.
Top Comment:
MMasters LCDs2. It will easily display the overall ammo count, but you could probably do each turret individually with it, you may just have to create a separate group name for each turret.
In Come and See (1985), they used live ammunition during filming...

"At times, [real bullets] flew just above the heads of actors, making their terrified looks genuine. And the scene where machine gun fire takes down a cow – that really happened."

They managed to not kill anyone using real bullets, and then there is The Crow
[Robocop 2] Why give live ammo to Robocop 2 prototypes?
Main Post:
They clearly weren't well tested enough. Why don't give them empty weapons, at least on the demonstration?
Top Comment:
I assumed it was meant to be a boast- "Our Robot's target detection is so safe, we can give them live ammo and put them in our boardroom!"
It's rather like the guy who advertised his online security company by putting his personal information on a truck and driving it around america. It also ended about as predictably.

Either this kinetic puller or a collet puller is practically mandatory for every reloader.

Top Comment: How the fuck does someone not realize they loaded a live round in a magazine? Or if they were just grabbing mags how do they not see live rounds at the top of the mag? It blows my mind how this could happen
Are there usually live rounds on movie sets?
Main Post: Are there usually live rounds on movie sets?
Top Comment: 'Live Rounds' on a movie set means blanks..which is leading to a lot of confusion. These days actors tend to have prop guns , with added CG mussle flashes . So there are 'live round' guns and 'prop' guns . Blanks contain a charge and shot sparks , to do that there is a force down the barrel. In Branden Lee's case , a metal casing fragment from a previous blank discharge was still in wedged the barrel, it was this that was propelled forward, at close range, and sadly killed him. But we don't know what happened yet with the Alex Bladwin incident.
